BENTON CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 15, 2010
The governing body of the City of Benton, Kansas met in regular session at the usual meeting place in the City at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Ken Gile presided and members of the council were present as follows: John Gahagan, Dan Carpenter, James Thompson, and Kathy Gomez. Scott Hartley was absent.NO PUBLIC COMMENT
APPROVE MINUTES
Kathy moved to approve the minutes from the January 18, 2009 meeting. Jim seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
BUTLER CO. SOLID WASTE PLANNING COMMITTEE
Dale agrees to serve another 3 year term as the representative for the City of Benton. Dan moved to appoint Dale as the City of Benton representative for a term of 3 years. John seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
KRWA DELEGATE
Kathy moved to appoint Dale as the KRWA Delegate and Ken as the alternate delegate. Jim seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
COMMUNITY BUILDING
The Lions Club has requested improvements to the sound system in the Community Building. Dale has estimates for different options which will be given to the Lions Club. They can determine which options work best for their budget and present their request to the city for approval of the work.
The Lions Club has requested the LED Sign be adjusted to create more of an angle. The consensus of the council is to have them present a plan to the council for approval as long as the Lions pay for the adjustment.
WATER LINE RELOCATION
The water line along 21st Street will need to be moved and Dale has been in contact with Wichita Water & Sewer Dept. about possibly moving the pump station at 143rd Street somewhere between 29th Street and the Andover Cemetery. We will need to purchase land. More information will be available at a later date.
PEC WORK ORDER
Kathy moved to accept Work Order 10-01 with PEC for $33,700 to provide engineering design and construction administration services for the Water Meter Relocation and Booster Pump Station Improvements. Jim seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
TOWNSHIP AGREEMENT
The Benton Township has agreed to a 2 year term Agreement with the City of Benton. Dan moved to accept the Agreement with Benton Township. Jim seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Dale -County Engineer Daryl Lutz is still upset over the entrance for Stearman Estates.
Joyce -received requests from CHS Prom Committee and CAT Easter Egg Hunt for a donation.
Dan moved to donate $200 each to CHS Prom Committee and the Easter Egg Hunt. Kathy seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
Charles- reported on calls to service and the 2010 Patrol Car purchased this month.
Dan moved to void the agreement with Ed Griem for monthly computer maintenance and use him on an as needed basis only. Kathy seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
APPROVE BILLS
Dan moved to approve the bills as presented. Jim seconded. Motion carried 4-0.

Kathy moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:39 p.m. John seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
