CITY OF BENTON

MARCH 16, 2009

The governing body of the City of Benton, Kansas met in regular session at the usual meeting place in the City at 7:02 p.m.  Mayor Ken Gile presided and members of the governing body were present as follows:  John Gahagan, Jim Thompson, Kathy Gomez and Gene Harrison.  Dan Carpenter was absent.

APPROVE MINUTES
Kathy moved to approve the minutes from the 2-16-09 meeting.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

BSAC APPOINTMENTS
Barney Macari made the following recommendations for BSAC Board Members.  Eric Barrier, George Strecker, Chris Livingston, Donn Parr and Paul Wolf.

Gene moved to accept the recommendations for BSAC Board Members.  Kathy seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

STEARMAN ESTATES 2ND ADDITION
Bids for Sanitary Sewer Improvements for Stearman Estates 2nd Addition were opened March 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m.  Dale’s recommendation is Nowak at $103,862.50.

Kathy moved to award the bid to Nowak.  Gene seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

BENTON DAYS
Council discussed purchasing small flags to hand out as well as throwing candy. 

Kathy moved to purchase approximately 750 4X6 inch flags for Benton Days and to also throw out candy during the parade.  Gene seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.         

DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Dale        -Bids for replacing the ceiling in the city building were received and the low bid    was In-Tech for $4500.00.  They are scheduled to begin March 30.
                -The roof on the Community Building is scheduled to be repaired next month.

Dale’s term as a representative for the Walnut Valley Basin ends soon.  He would like to continue as a representative. 

Kathy moved to appoint Dale as a representative for the Walnut Valley Basin.  Gene seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

Joyce      -We have received requests for donations from Tour Butler, CHS After Prom Committee and the Community Action Team for the Easter Egg Hunt.

Kathy moved to donate $300.00 each to Tour Butler, CHS After Prom and CAT.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

Charles   -updated the council on cases for the past month.
 
James suggested moving Dog Tag Day to April or May when the weather would be warmer.

APPROVE BILLS
Gene moved to approve the bills as presented.  Kathy seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.

ADJOURN

Kathy moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.  John seconded.  Motion carried 4-0.
