CITY OF BENTON
JULY 20, 2009
The governing body of the City of Benton, Kansas met in regular session at the usual meeting place in the City at 7:01 p.m. Mayor Ken Gile presided and members of the governing body were present as follows: John Gahagan, Jim Thompson, Dan Carpenter, Kathy Gomez and Scott Hartley.
APPROVE MINUTES
Jim moved to approve the minutes from the June 15, 2009 meeting. John seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
DEWAAY FINANCIAL
Jeff Bridges introduced Mark Detter who will be taking over as the city’s financial advisor when Jeff leaves DeWaay.
Kathy moved to authorize DeWaay Financial to prepare the next draw on Letters of Credit from Emprise Bank for Prairie Village unpaid specials. Dan seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
SIDEWALKS
Information is not yet available. Subject is tabled until August.
GENERATOR
Bids for a generator to run both the city building and community building are between $21,550 and $33,887.
Dale proposes having both buildings set up with transfer switches and renting a generator when needed for emergencies. Council requests estimates for the transfer switches.
JOY PLAT
Dan moved to accept Keith Joy’s revised plat. Kathy seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Dale - will be attending the Water Resource Committee/REAP meeting for conflicts between Rural Water Districts and Municipalities.
-Work on gazebos is scheduled to begin depending on the weather
-PEC is working on the drainage issues in Prairie Village.
-Street repair will start next week depending on the weather.
Charles -discussed part time officers with the council. He will be employing Roy Raines and Bill Adkins.
2010 BUDGET
Council scheduled a work session for July 27, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the 2010 budget. 2010 Budget Hearing is scheduled for August 10, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVE BILLS
Kathy moved to approve the bills as presented. Jim seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

John moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:07 p.m. Kathy seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
