CITY OF BENTON

AUGUST 17, 2009

The governing body of the City of Benton, Kansas met in regular session at the usual meeting place in the City at 7:02 p.m.  Mayor Ken Gile presided and members of the governing body were present as follows:  John Gahagan, Jim Thompson, Dan Carpenter, Kathy Gomez and Scott Hartley.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Lou Coffman commented on sidewalks, kids, and licensing bicycles.

APPROVE MINUTES
Kathy moved to approve the minutes from the July 20 meeting.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried 5-0.

PRESENTATION
Angie Bauer, gave a presentation on the Butler County Community Foundation.

ORDINANCE 2009-04
Dan moved to adopt Ordinance 2009-04, An ordinance adopting the 2009 Addition of the Uniform Public Offense Code by the City of Benton.  Kathy seconded.  Motion carried
5-0.

ORDINANCE 2009-05
Kathy moved to adopt Ordinance 2009-05, An ordinance adopting the 2009 addition of the Standard Traffic Ordinance by the City of Benton.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried
5-0.

RESOLUTION 09-09
Dan moved to adopt Resolution 09-09, a resolution to formally adopt the updated Butler County Hazard Mitigation Plan for the City of Benton located within the incorporated area of the Butler County, Kansas.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried 5-0.

CFAP
Jim moved to renew the CFAP Lease Program with Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks   for a term of 10 years.  Kathy seconded.  Motion carried 5-0.

SIDEWALKS
Plans for sidewalks in the downtown area are ready.  Bids will be opened Sept. 17.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Dale
Bids for transfer switches for city building. and community building are not in yet. Will request for next month.

Will get estimates for painting the water tower.
APAC is almost finished with street work.

Update on cases
Purchased two defibulators
Received a $10,000 grant for thermal imaging equipment

APPROVE BILLS
Kathy moved to approve the bills as presented.  Jim seconded.  Motion carried 5-0.
