WATER BILLS
Bills are sent out the first of each month and must be paid on or before the 25th. They are to be paid at Peabody State Bank. The Bank is located at 234 N. Main. Their drop box is inside the front door and their Lobby hours are 8a.m.-12p.m. and 1p.m.-2:30p.m. or drive through window 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. On Friday lobby and window are open till 6 p.m. Bills may be mailed to Peabody State Bank, PO box 309, Benton KS 67017.
MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO CITY OF BENTON.
All rental properties require a $60.00 deposit with the City before service will be furnished.
Water bills include water ($12.00/1st 1000 gallons plus $5.25/1000 gal. up to your winter average and $7.50/1000 gal. over average), the sewer ($15.50 base plus $3.50 per 1000 gallons of water used up to your winter average) and trash ($8.50) and recycle ($3.75).
TRASH SERVICE
The trash is picked up on Thursday’s beginning at 6:00 a.m. Trash cart, standard trash can and up to 10 bags may be left at the edge of the street. No yard waste will be picked up. The City has the large 90-gallon trash carts available and encourages residents to use these carts. Trash cart deposit is $20.00. Recycle carts are picked up every other Thursday. Activation code is needed to set up the rewards program. For activation code call RecycleBank at 1-888-727-2978. You will need to have available your recycle cart number, street address, mailing address, name and phone number.
DOG TAGS
All dogs in the City must be tagged. Upon providing proof of current rabies shots, a tag can be obtained at the city office. Cost is $5.00 if the dog is spayed or neutered and $10.00 if its not. There is a leash law in the City that requires dogs to be on a leash if they are outside a fenced yard. The City has an ordinance prohibiting Pit Bull dogs as well as other animals that may be vicious, from being kept in the City and prohibits the harboring or keeping of Pot-Bellied Pigs or most other animals and livestock in the City.
CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., City Hall.
CITY COURT: First Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., City Hall.
